The Fells offers rotating art and history exhibits in the Main House, open for touring during seasonal Main House Hours.
By His Side: President Abraham Lincoln and John Hay
Saturday, May 25 through Monday, October 14, open during Main House Hours
At age 22, John Hay was a graduate at Brown University, clerking in his uncle’s law office in Springfield, Illinois. Across the hall was attorney and politician Abraham Lincoln, who later hired him as his private secretary in the White House. This exhibit explores Hay’s relationship with the U.S. President during that critical period in our nation’s history. Historical images, records and objects from The Fells and other collections provide the documentation.
