Volunteer/ Internship

Volunteering with Education Programs

Are you interested in history, art, or historic houses? Do you enjoy gaining and sharing your knowledge with interested people? Would you like to become an integral part of a group of volunteers and staff dedicated to the care and preservation of the historic Fells Main House? One option is to receive training as a Docent, volunteers who give guided tours when the Main House is open to the public. Other ways volunteers can help are to greet visitors and answer questions at the front desk, assist in the gift shop, and serve as an Education program volunteer (for example, greeting and orienting guests for a lecture).

Our Teen Docent Program also provides training for students ages 14-17 to become tour guides in the house.

If you might be interested, please contact us via email for more information about available opportunities and our training program.

Education/ Landscape Internships

Are you interested in a career in history, museum studies, landscape architecture, design, or environmental education? An internship at the John Hay Estate may be a good fit for you. The Hay Estate offers several internships each year to college students. Speak with your academic advisor about whether you can receive credit for a Hay Estate internship. You may also apply through Handshake. Please contact Madison Mellin via email or 603-763-4789 to inquire.

We are now accepting applications, on a rolling basis.
