Author Burt Solomon writes, “In both of my historical mysteries—it’ll be a trilogy—I’ve used John Hay as my detective (and alter ego). I didn’t choose him; he chose me.” Mr. Solomon will talk about how he turned a fascinating historical figure into a quasi-fictional character. What did he keep; what did he add; and why? John Hay was an accomplished, charming, and complicated man—“a fallible, engaging character,” as a reviewer put it—Hay is a marvelous vehicle for viewing the tumult of American history from Lincoln to Theodore Roosevelt. Join us for this delightful presentation followed by conversation with Mr. Solomon, who will take questions and comments. Books will be available and the author is willing to sign them.
