The Natural Lakeshore Habitat - A Closer Look - Thur., Aug 23, 10:00am

  • The Fells Historic Estate & Gardens 456 Route 103A Newbury, NH, 03255 United States (map)

Come learn about the wonderful natural world that exists where the water meets the land. This joint Fells-LSPA program will explore this ecotone, or transitional meeting of two different natural communities. What are the plant and animal species that inhabit this zone? What special relationships exist here? What does a healthy lakeshore habitat look like? We will also be joined by photographer and all-around creative person, Kathy Lowe! She will share some of her "Petreflections" and show us how she creates them. These amazing images are of the exact intersection of land and water and excite our imaginations! This program, designed for upper elementary school-age through adults, begins with a presentation in the John Hay Classroom in the Gatehouse, followed by an easy hike along the shore of Lake Sunapee. Waterproof boots may be helpful. LSPA and Fells members: free. Nonmembers: included with regular admission fee. Advanced registration is requested, though walk-ins are welcome. To reserve call 603-763-4789 x3.
